I am very happy to announce the YMAA California Retreat Center will extend its operations for 5 more years until 2024. We are extremely fortunate to have the Ku Foundation join us and co-sponsor the new programs. With the Ku Foundation’s support and your continued contributions, I am sure that we will make it happen
In early October 2017, we began recruiting two new groups of students for 5 years and 3 years of training. The 5-Year group (2018-2023) will learn Shaolin Long Fist, Shaolin White Crane, Taijiquan, and Qigong. The age limit will be 17-30 years old due to the strenuous training. The 3-Year group (2018-2021) will focus on Taijiquan and Qigong and there will be no age limit for the students. If everything goes as expected, we will recruit another 3-Year group in 2020 for enrollment from 2020-2023. After the programs end, the Center will remain open for students and visitors until the property is sold.
We have gained much experience from the current Shaolin/Taiji programs that will help make the next programs more efficient and successful.
Seven of the current Shaolin/Taiji students will graduate in June 2018:
Jonathan Chang (10 Years)
Frank Verhülsdonk (9 Years)
Javier Rodriguez (9 Years)
Quentin Lopes (6 Years)
Michelle Lin (5 Years)
Enrico Tomei (5 Years)
Piper Chan (5 Years)

The 3-Year Taiji/Qigong students (recruited in 2016) will graduate in June 2019. Operations are now running more smoothly and most students are advancing to a satisfying level.
New Program Applications
Please help us spread the word and reach out to those who may be interested in joining the new programs. Potential candidates may review the applications for details and instructions on applying (www.ymaaretreatcenter.org/new-programs).
The recruiting process will go as follows: Potential candidates are invited to the center for a testing period (two-week minimum). The purpose is to determine if the applicants can adopt the training environment and living conditions. It will also provide us the chance to review the candidates’ capability and potential for the new programs. The written application is due May 31st, 2018. After evaluating the candidates and applications, the qualified candidates will be chosen to join the programs starting on September 1st of 2018.
I cannot express how grateful I am to everyone who has supported me through over four decades of teaching martial arts and Qigong. There is much we have learned and accomplished and I look forward to the following years. Thank you very much.
Sincerely, Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming Director, YMAA CA Retreat Center
